Ceci est la couleur de mes rêves

What we are is God's gift to us. What we become is our gift to God. - Eleanor Powell

I will sing sing sing and make music

I found out a little while ago through a Facebook event someone (whom I can not for the life of me recall) invited me to about an interesting sounding gig. It was an invite to audition for Vocal Horizons Choir performing for the Raptors opening night/game vs. Cleveland.

Having been sick with a seemingly harmless run-of-the-mill cold virus, which turned into a feverish mass of all-round yuckiness I was unable to make the audition date. Giving up on the idea of singing in front of thousands of viewers with an orchestra and a SICK hip-hop arrangement of Carmina Burana, I was content with the thought of “it would have been nice…”. However, God works in mysterious ways my friends and I am a living testament to that. I have been blessed in countless ways and God continues to remind me that He is a God who is alive and breathing within our very lives. Anyway, I got an email a few days after the audition date from the choir manager asking if I was still interested in singing for the Raptors opening game. I replied explaining why I couldn’t make the audition and that I figured it was just a missed opportunity. She replied back by telling me to come half an hour before the rehearsal to do my audition then. Now, because I gave up on the idea of singing for the Raptors I hadn’t practiced (also because I had no voice to practice with), I didn’t know the lyrics to any songs, and I didn’t even have a clue as to what song to audition with.

I didn’t know all the lyrics to “Summertime” up until the morning of the audition day and even then I didn’t have a concrete idea of how I would sing the abridged version of it. I honestly wasn’t too concerned about getting the audition or not, I was happy with the fact that this would be my first ever audition vocally.

To my great surprise and delight, I got the audition! We’re doing the most epic piece. For those of you who are versed in Classical repertoire, the piece is from Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana, but it’s set to a different text and a hip hop beat.

Here’s something unexpected: we aren’t getting complimentary tickets for the game. Instead, we’re all going down to Harbourfront where we have a section of a sports bar reserved and watching the game on the big screen. Lame I know. But, you can’t win ‘em all eh? What an honour, I’m so so STOKED about being on the same court that LeBron and Shaq are going to be playing on after we step off the court. WOOT.

Look for me on TV..you may see a full body shot of me, and you may only get a glimpse of my wenus, who knows. You’ll just have to watch and see! (=

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes, I LOVE YOU ALL! <3
